Happy Mothers Day!

Last year, Kajal was still learning English and didn't understand what Mothers day was. She was still adjusting to having a mother never mind grasping the concept of celebrating one. A few days ago she came home from school all excited. She handed me two beautiful cards that she'd made.. Happy Mothers Day she screamed. My heart melted. The last few days she's been very excited, Mothers Day is Sunday Mommy... you can do whatever you want, it's your day. What do you want to do? We've kicked around several ideas and as it's morning we're still deciding what to do for the day. Most likely it will be breakfast out at a small local restaurant or the local diner and a day in the park. What was most precious was how it began, it went something like this:

4 AM             Mommy, will you hold me?  Yes, honey, always
4:15  AM      Mommy, is it too early to get up. Yes Kajal, it is
Are you sure, it's Mothers Day. Yes, Kajal, please try and go back to sleep
5 AM             Happy Mothers day, Mommy! Thank you, baby, can we go back to sleep now?
5:05 AM        Hey Mom, will you hold my hand? Sure, can we sleep now?
5:07 AM         Happy, Mothers day Mommy. Guess what Mommy? (I mumble)
                       Mommy, you're my best friend.
Okay, that woke me up with a smile, you're my best friend too baby. I wrap my arms around her... can we sleep now?
5:15 AM         Mom, do you mind if I go watch tv and play? It's early, Kajal but hey, since it's Mothers day... go for it.
5:40 AM         MOMMY! WAKE UP! I HAVE A SURPRISE FOR YOU! IT's MOTHERS DAY WAKE UP!!!!!!
Kajal, since it's mothers day, Can I PLEASE sleep a little longer????

Needless to say, every 15 minutes for the next few hours (yes, I managed to stay in bed a few more hours) Kajal screamed for me to wake up to see my big surprise. When I finally dragged myself out of bed she showed me her bedroom, all cleaned up. Of course, Kajals idea of cleaning is to take anything she doesn't have the patience to figure out where it goes and stash it in the nearest corner, book shelf etc but to me, her room looked beautiful.

She asked me, Mom, why is mothers day special anyway? And I explain to her, that this is a day on the calendar that people take the time to tell there mothers that they appreciate them but the reason it's special for me is that I spent years praying to be a mother and with her, my dream finally came true.
